Honoring Veterans with Expanded Toll Benefits on The Toll Roads

Happy Veteran’s Day!  We honor and express our heartfelt gratitude to all the brave men and women who have served our country at home and abroad.

Today, we highlight the changes we have made to our Disabled Veteran’s Program. Beginning October 1, 2025, The Toll Roads are proud to expand our existing Disabled Veteran Program, offering greater flexibility for eligible drivers. This expansion allows veterans who qualify for the California DMV Disabled Veteran (DV) Registration Fee Exemption to receive free tolls exclusively on The Toll Roads, even if they choose not to display a veteran license plate.

This update reflects our ongoing commitment to honoring those who have served, while making it easier for veterans to access toll benefits in a way that respects their preferences.

Existing Eligibility Requirements

Under our existing program, disabled veterans must display a qualifying license plate to drive toll-free on The Toll Roads (State Routes 73, 133, 241 and 261) and certain other toll facilities in California, pursuant to Vehicle Code § 23301.3.

What’s Changing?

As of October 1, 2025, accountholders with the Toll Roads who qualify for the California DMV DV Registration Fee Exemption can drive toll-free on The Toll Roads only, without displaying a qualifying license plate, beginning the day their enrollment is approved.

How to Enroll

If you have an active FasTrak account with The Toll Roads, enrollment is simple. Please submit the following via email, fax or by visiting one of our Customer Service Centers:

  • Image of license plate
  • Copy of the vehicle’s valid registration with DV Registration Fee Exemption
  • Number on the transponder mounted on the vehicle (preferably an image of the number)

Annual Re-Enrollment Required

To maintain toll exemption status, accountholders must re-enroll each year after their vehicle registration expires on December 31. To re-enroll, drivers can email, visit one of our Customer Service Centers or fax their renewed California DMV registration showing that the DV Registration Fee Exemption has been extended for another year. Documentation must be submitted within 15 days of the registration expiration date to avoid disruption in toll benefits.
