Pardon our Dust While We Enhance Your Drive

The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), in partnership with The Toll Roads, is on a mission to improve the drive for motorists. Work is moving full speed ahead on the 241 Pavement Repair and 73 Enhancement projects, both expected to be completed in 2024.

Did you know? The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) planned, built, financed and now operates The Toll Roads, but the facilities are owned and maintained by Caltrans.

241 Pavement Repair Project

In late-September, Caltrans began Phase II of the maintenance activity which includes pavement work on the 241 Toll Road to smooth the uneven roadway. The bumps are caused by the presence of expansive soil in localized areas along the 241 between the 133 Toll Road and 91 Freeway. Crews completed Phase I of the repair project, which included installation of moisture control drainage systems to mitigate runoff. With the combination of new drainage systems and pavement resurfacing, drivers will soon have a smoother ride while traveling along the 241.

Pavement repair work is being done in segments to reduce impacts to drivers. Currently, crews are working on the southbound 241 Loma Ridge Segment, between the 261 Toll Road interchange and the 133 Toll Road. Closures take place nightly, Sunday to Thursday, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During the nightly closures, drivers will be directed to take southbound 261, exit at Portola Parkway and proceed left on Portola to reenter the 241. Signage is in place to assist drivers with detour routes.

Once southbound repair work is complete, crews will then shift to the northbound 241 for additional paving operations in mid-October. Following completion of work at Loma Ridge, crews will mobilize at the Windy Ridge segment in spring 2024.

73 Enhancement Project

The 73 Enhancement Project is underway to remove and replace aging guardrails on the mainline and on- and off-ramps along the 73 Toll Road for enhanced safety. In 2021, the project began at the northern end of the 73 Toll Road and is now entering its next phase of construction between Pacific Park Drive/Glenwood Drive and La Paz Road.

Drivers can expect nighttime mainline lane reductions and on- and off-ramp lane reductions and full closures between Pacific Park/Glenwood Drive to La Paz Road. To view this week’s closures and detours, visit TheTollRoads.com/closures. The project is expected to be completed Summer 2024.
