Earthquake Safety on The Toll Roads

Today (October 21) marks International ShakeOut Day — a day to help the world prepare for earthquakes.

The Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA) are participating in a ShakeOut Drill. As a reminder, the safest thing to do during an earthquake is to “Drop, Cover and Hold On.”

However, if motorists happen to be using Orange County’s Toll Roads when an earthquake occurs, TCA offers a few what-to-do tips below:

  • Avoid overpasses, bridges, power lines, signs and other hazards.
  • Pull over to a shoulder as quickly as possible and set the parking brake.
  • Stay inside the vehicle until the shaking stops, then, proceed carefully by avoiding fallen debris, cracked or shifted pavement and emergency vehicles.
