As the holiday season begins, drivers are getting out on the road! Whether you’re enjoying the holidays at home or taking a road trip to visit family and friends, check out some helpful tips to make your drive as easy as pie.

Become a FasTrak® Accountholder
FasTrak makes your drive a breeze. FasTrak is the easiest and preferred way to pay tolls on every tolled bridge, lane and road in California. The Toll Roads accountholders get the lowest toll on our roads and may be eligible for a frequent driver discount! Sign up today at TheTollRoads.com.
Paying Tolls in a Rental Car
If you are renting or borrowing a vehicle and have a FasTrak account with any tolling agency in California, you can temporarily add the vehicle’s license plate number to your account.
If you don’t have an account, you can have tolls charged directly to your credit card while using a rental car. Once you enter the license plate number you will be directed through a process to have tolls charged directly to your credit card for all or part of your rental period.
Some companies require you pre-register your vehicle before your drive on The Toll Roads. Any trips incurred before you register the vehicle will be charged directly through the rental company after you return the car, according to your rental agreement.
Road Tripping with FasTrak
If you’re road tripping through California, a FasTrak account is a must! When driving one of the states tolled bridges, lanes or roads, FasTrak may be the only way to pay.
If you have a FasTrak Flex® switchable transponder, some tolling facilities allow qualifying carpools and eligible vehicles to drive for free or at a discounted rate. Prior to starting each trip, it is the driver’s responsibility to indicate the number of occupants in the vehicle by moving the switch to the appropriate setting (1, 2, 3+). Purchase a FasTrak Flex transponder by logging into your account online at TheTollRoads.com or via The Toll Roads app.
Pay Tolls Online Without an Account
All tolls on The Toll Roads are paid electronically. Visitors can easily pay tolls online without a FasTrak account at TheTollRoads.com or via The Toll Roads app. Drivers have five days before and after their trip to make a payment to avoid receiving a Notice of Toll Evasion. It may take up to 48 hours for tolls to process and link to your license plate number, but you can provide your payment information for the dates you drove, and we’ll process them once they post. To download the app, search “The Toll Roads” in the App Store or Google Play Store.
Temporarily Add a License Plate
Are you hosting out-of-town guests or renting a vehicle? You can temporarily add a license plate number to your FasTrak account to pay. To add a plate, log in to your account, click “Vehicles,” click “Add a vehicle” and enter the vehicle’s start and end dates.

Calculate Tolls Before You Go
Want to know what the cost is for a particular trip? Check out The Toll Roads’ Toll Calculator at TheTollRoads.com/Tolls/Toll-Calculator. To calculate your toll, select the road you will drive; your entry and exit points (choose “unknown” if you are not sure); how you will pay; and the number of axles your vehicle has. The toll calculator page also features a downloadable map and rate card.
Cash Payment
Did you know that you can pay your tolls with cash? Drivers can pay tolls, replenish their FasTrak accounts and resolve violations with cash in person at one of The Toll Roads’ Customer Service Walk-In Centers.
In addition, The Toll Roads have partnered with PayNearMe to give drivers the option to pay tolls, replenish FasTrak accounts and resolve violations with cash at more than 40,000 participating retailers nationwide, including: 7-Eleven, CVS Pharmacy, Family Dollar, Walgreens, Walmart and more.
